How was it to be in London during Queen Elizabeth I time

The city of London expanded fast during Elizabeth's reign. During this time many palaces were built.

Sadly ordinary people lived in crowded houses on narrow and stinky streets (because the people always threw out of the windows their "no 1's and 2's"). London was so dirty that people caught horrible diseases such as the Black Plague.

The River Thames, the main river that runs through London, was a very busy place with all kinds of boats sailing up and down.

There was only one bridge across the River Thames. The river had ginormous buildings along it.
